Canada committed to long-term Afghan support
January 31, 2012
KABUL – Deputy Foreign Minister Jawed Ludin received Canadian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Morris Rosenberg, at the Foreign Ministry this afternoon.

Ludin expressed the gratitude of the Afghan government and people for Canada’s support to Afghanistan’s security and development over the past decade.

“There is an intimate appreciation of Canada’s engagement in Afghanistan over the past ten years among our people and government,” Ludin said. “And this has come at the cost of great Canadian sacrifices for the security and the generous assistance of Canada for the development of Afghanistan.”

Embassy Statement about the shafia's family Case
January 31, 2012

The Embassy of Afghanistan in Ottawa condemns the horrific death of four innocent women in Kingston, Ontario, with the strongest terms possible. The killing of Rona Amir Mohammed, Zainab Shafia, Sahar Shafia and Geeti Shafia, which accrued in summer 2009, were a heinous crime against humanity.

This kind of Crime is neither part of Afghan culture nor Islamic culture, and it is not acceptable in any ways. There is nothing honorable, about violence against anyone especially against innocent women. Honor killing is unacceptable in Afghanistan Constitution and its Justice System.

Afghanistan & UK Sign Long-Term Strategic Partnership Document
January 28, 2012
President Hamid Karzai and British Prime Minister David Cameron signed on Saturday a long-term strategic partnership Document that outlines how the two countries would work together after 2014.

 Prime Minister Cameron welcomed and met President Karzai at his Buckinghamshire residence where the two sides discussed the security transition from the International Forces to the Afghan National Security Forces (ASNF), the peace process and continued collaborations of the International Community, particularly the UK’s support to Afghanistan.

Afghanistan and France Sign Long-term Friendship and Partnership Treaty
January 27, 2011
President Hamid Karzai and French President Nicolas Sarkozy signed on Friday a treaty on friendship and partnership between the two countries that outlines the country’s commitment for long haul in several key areas such as education, health, economy and culture.

Talking at a joint press availability with President Karzai following the ceremony to sign the treaty, President Sarkozy said his country would continue with its training mission for the Afghan security forces in Afghanistan.

Partnership Agreement Lays Foundation for Italy’s Long-term Cooperation with Afghanistan
January 27, 2012

In Rome on Thursday evening, President Hamid Karzai and Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti signed a long-term strategic partnership agreement that enhances Italy's areas of assistance to Afghanistan.

At a joint press conference following the signing ceremony, Prime Minister Monti said the partnership accord lays the foundation for the Italian’s long-term cooperation with Afghanistan. "The main message of today's meeting is that Italy's responsibilities and partnership will not lessen with the withdrawal of our military forces in 2014," added Prime Minister Monti.

Japan to Host International Conference on Economic Assistance to Afghanistan
January 11, 2012
Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Koichiro GEMBA called on President Karzai on Wednesday to extend to the President an official invitation to attend an international conference to be hosted in Tokyo on economic assistance to Afghanistan.

The two sides discussed issues related to the Tokyo Conference, scheduled to be held in July this year and hoped the International Conference results in more economic assistance to Afghanistan.

Canadian Governor general visited afghanistan
December 25, 2011

His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, joined by the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, and General Walt Natynczyk, Chief of the Defence Staff, visited Afghanistan.

Governor General met with H.E. Hamid Karzai President of I.R. of Afghanistan and discused Canada’s new engagement strategy in the country and visited Canadian Troops in Kabul. His Excellency also met with Dr. Omar Zakhilwal, minister of Finance, Mr. Farooq Wardak, minister of Education, and Dr. Suraya Dalil, acting minister of Public Health of Afghanistan.

به تاریخ 11 دسامبر 2011 میلادی، خانواده و دوستان مرحوم استاد برهان الدین ربانی مراسم بزرگداشت از مقام سیاسی و اجتماعی ایشان را در شهر تورنتو کانادا برگزار نمودند که آقای میرویس صالحی، شارژدافیر سفارت جمهوری اسلامی افغانستان در اوتاوا، در مراسم مذکور شرکت جسته و در بارۀ مقام استاد ربانی سخنانی را ایراد کرد. ـ

آقای صالحی، در سخنان خود از مقام علمی و جهادی استاد برهان الدین ربانی به نیکویی یاد کرده و ایشان را به عنوان یک رهبر بزرگ جهادی و یک عالم معتبر دینی توصیف کرد که قسمت اعظم عمر خود را در راه جهاد و آزادی و همچنان فراگیری معارف دینی صرف نمودند. ـ

president karzai condemed terrorist attacks in afghanistan
December 6-7, 2011
President Hamid Karzai has condemned in the strongest terms the horrible terrorist attacks that killed and injured many innocent people in the provinces of Kabul and Mazar-e-Sharif and Helmand.

Initial reports indicate that the enemies of Afghanistan carried out two vile terrorist attacks on the religious day of Ashura as Muslims were busy mourning and worshiping in the shrines.

Canadian firm Kilo Goldmines Ltd. awarded big Afghan iron ore contract
November 28, 2011

A group of Indian companies and Canada’s Kilo Goldmines Ltd. (CVE:KGL) have been awarded the contract to mine the Hajigak iron ore deposit in Afghanistan.

overnment awarded three of the four Hajigak blocks to seven Indian companies, led by state-owned Steel Authority of India Ltd. and NMDC Ltd.,  that were bidding with support from the Indian government. The fourth block was awarded to Kilo Goldmines, which is described on its website as a gold exploration and development company that is actively drilling several past-producing mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The contract is estimated to be worth some $6 billion..

Government Reports on Canada’s Engagement in Afghanistan

The Honourable Peter MacKay Minister of National Defence, today tabled the Government of Canada’s thirteenth quarterly report on Canada’s engagement in Afghanistan.

The report covers the period from April 1 to June 30, 2011. It outlines progress achieved on Canada’s six priorities and three signature projects in Afghanistan.  It also provides a near-final look at the status ofCanada’s benchmarks and targets that were announced by the Government of Canada in 2008.
