Afghanistan’s Minister of Mines Attends the PDAC International Convention & Mining Investment in Toronto, 6-9 March 2011

His Excellency Wahidullah Shahrani, Minister of Mines of Afghanistan will take part in the 2011 PDAC International Convention and Mining Investment Show to be held from 6 to 9 March 2001 in Toronto, Canada. Officials from Afghanistan's Geological Survey will be accompanying the Minister.

During the visit, the Afghan delegation will hold talks with officials from the Canadian federal and provincial governments to discuss ways of increasing Canadian investment in the mining sector of Afghanistan and initiating bilateral technical cooperation for the efficient and transparent management of Afghanistan’s mineral resources . The Minister will also meet with Canadian and international mining industry leaders to discuss mining opportunities in Afghanistan and to invite them to the country.

In a special session titled “Afghanistan minerals: Land of Opportunity” scheduled for Sunday March 6, from 1 to 5 pm at Metro Toronto Convention Center, Minister Shahrani and officials from Afghanistan Geological Survey and the US Geological Survey will share exciting new data on the mineral landscape of Afghanistan. They will present unique opportunities for exploration and mining of copper, gold, iron, Rare Earth Elements, and lithium deposits within the country. This session will highlight how Afghanistan’s rich mineral resources will reshape Afghanistan’s economy. Based on recent surveys, Afghanistan has huge untapped mineral reserves including gems, copper, iron ore, gold, lithium and other rare elements. The untapped mineral wealth of Afghanistan is worth at least 3 trillion dollars.
